History of The Weazels (in brief)

During the mid to late 1980's The Weazels (or Jimmy The Weazel as they were also known) were one of the hardest working 'live' bands in show business. In one year, the original band members (Polly, Al, & Sputnik) did over 250 gigs, once doing 5 gigs in 3 countries in 2 days, plus busking in every town they visited. The Weazels played to any audience willing to have them, and at every kind of venue you could imagine; from arts centres to bikers bars, and front rooms to stadiums. The Weazels were regulars at the Oeral Festival in Terschelling where they were supported by a young Eddie Izzard who also played tambourine with the band.

Here are a couple of YouTube video clips of The Weazels on stage, from a Dutch TV pilot show.

Polly Weazel passed away in late November 2008 and is much missed by all those whose lives he touched. As well as being The Weazels front man, Polly was one of the original Brixton Squatters, tour manager for 'The Motors' (whose song "Airport" was #1 in the UK at the time), and lead singer of the cult band 'Sussex' (Radio 1 - album of the week).

Al Weazel lives and works in Amsterdam where he is a much sought after and respected session guitarist. Al's CV includes playing keyboards for The Damned on tour.

Sputnik Weazel lives in Llandeilo (West Wales), and when not writing, recording, or staring at the mountains, drums for the 'Surfin' Lungs' (signed to Wild Punk Records: Spain).

At many Weazel gigs, instead of a drum solo, Sputnik would take a photograph of the audience. This idea developed when Polly (in his distinctive green Weazel hat and red shirt) decided to rush off stage and strike a pose for the camera amongst the audience. As well as being an interesting sociological record, the following photos are an illustration of the comedic genius of the late great Polly Weazel:
